An Introduction to Watercoloring through Observation
with Marcela Gutierrez
Over the course of 3 classes we will be drawing two eyes and a pair of lips. Each illustration will be able to stand alone as its own artwork, or for those wanting to join for all 3 classes (although each reference will be taken from a different person), they will form a combined artwork.
Each class will begin with drawing a few guidelines to help with proportion and composition, after which we draw together a very light pencil drawing from our reference photo. We then will proceed to observe closely all the colors we can perceive in our image and attempt to mix and make those colors on a separate piece of paper for practice. I shall teach a few tricks and techniques to guide your paintbrush with confidence. After this we will move to paint our artwork using several layers as that is how one constructs a painting with watercolors.
You will learn to trust yourself, with practice and technique you can do whatever you want with it, it's just a matter of understanding its nature. You will very likely surprise yourselves with what you can achieve when armed with the right skills!
